iphone 3GS or HTC HD2 ?!?!

I'm having a dilemma right now which has already caused me unrest for past 3 days. I am able to upgrade my plan with a new phone right now and i can't decide on which of the two phones i mentioned above to buy~ >_< And it is causing me a headache~@_@

If anyone of you dearest visitors have a very strong opinion or confident suggestion, please tell me as soon as you can. I will be getting the phone, be it one or another today. Its been nearly a week since I started deciding~^_^;

For those of you who are not familiar with the HTC HD2? Its incredibly good. It beats the iphone 8 to 1. I will list down the specs for those who are interested and you will know why i'm having a dilemma.

Processor: HTC HD2(1.24Ghz), iphone(0.6Ghz)
Ram: HTC HD2(512MB), iphone(256MB)
ROM: HTC HD2(448MB), iphone(???)
Camera: HTC HD2(5MP), iphone(3MP)
Flash: HTC HD2(High intensity Dual LED), iphone(no flash)
Screen size: HTC HD2(4.3inches), iphone(3.5inches)
Storage: HTC HD2(MicroSD expandable), iphone(Fixed 16GB or 32GB)
Battery: HTC HD2(1230mAh replacable to double size), iphone(unremovable battery)
Talk time: HTC HD2(7-8 hrs est), iphone(5-6hrs est)
Apps: HTC HD2(Windows Mobile, +emulators etc nearly all free, decades of developing),
iphone(iphone apps only, partially pay, better quality, might need to jailbreak. Unstable after jailbreak)
Install: HTC HD2(installs and runs like a PC), iphone(needs to install itunes, could take over your fav media player. Can't work without itunes.)

This picture shows the size of the phones side by side. The HTC HD2 clearly has a larger screen~

All the winning feature of the iphone has also been ported over by HTC HD2 namely the capacitive touch screen with multi point touch, icon interface, smart features like dim when use, accelerometer etc.

In fact, HTC has more features than the iphone...
The main problem with the HTC, the Windows Mobile 6.5 issue has also been heavily and I mean intensively redesigned by HTC until it has almost completely lost any sign of Windows Mobile's looks.

So now you see why I am so unsure of what to buy~@_@

All that the iphone has are its apps(and only fully utilisable after Jailbreaking(hack)) and its prestige and accessories. Its typing, messaging, email interfaces all loses to the HTC HD2~>_<;

Moreover, the HTC HD2 can have tons more 3rd party software than iphone apps with even a fully usable PS1 emulator, check out the link below.

Such a good phone... while the iphone is still good, but mainly floating on its prestige and popularity. More like, shucks people won't even believe that the iphone isn't as good until they use the HD2. People's impression nowadays is like if you're not using an iphone, your phone probably sucks. And iphone users seems so proud, they like to play their apps on full volume imagining everyone is watching~~_~ Do you get that in your country?

lols... Can someone who knows about these two phones please advice~^_^;
Hehe, that is if you know what I'm talking about~
I'll tell you which one I bought after tomorrow~

  1. Buy the HTC. Apple is just all hype, nothing much in reality. The software after jailbreaking like u said is unstable. There are many viruses that target the iPhone. However, i am not an Apple hater, its just that steve jobs has a way of advertising his iphone to the masses but HTC does not have much publicity. For better specs, choose HTC. For people to look at you when u use your phone, choose iphone.

    There is an excellent review on both of them, it doesn't make a recommendation.

    www.gizmodo.com.au no opinion

    Audio playback on the HTC is up to 18 while the iphone is 30, likewise video is two hours longer on the iphone. Standby time is much longer on the HTC 490 to 300 hours max; whereas the iphone has superior talk time sitting at 12 hours compared to HTC 380 minutes. Based on that alone the iphone would win.

    My personal opinion is for you to take the time and read the review on the first link I posted, it is a very in-depth analysis of both phones.

  3. Ah thank you both of you, any comments or suggestions are indeed helpful. I am currently inclined in getting the iphone, partly for its longer termed resale value and its proven reliability. The HD2 is way way good but its also about $150 costlier. I learnt that its multipoint touch and accelerometer are not ingrained in the OS itself but are HTC's good work. That might mean non full support of the accelerometer and multipoint touch in 3rd party softwares. Though who cares... HD2 is still a power house.

    Though inclination is the iphone 3GS.

    Anyone used the HD2 and iphone before?

    ~thank you~

  5. Oh hehe... its actually nice to hear (provided its true) that the HD2 sucks after a few weeks. Its because I was so troubled at not knowing which to choose, I wish one just have a significant flaw so that I can pick the better one.

    Well... hehe.
    I bought it... 3GS 32GB~^_^;

    Haiz, I'm an iphone whore now~

  7. hi five Yu!

    i am a fellow iphone 3GS user here!
    i guess in s'pore, iphone had the most attactive price plan than most as the bundled 16GB free data plan per month is indeed a very attractive reason to buy an iphone and use its internet function in 'everywhere everytime'.

  8. I have a HTC, so I know what the HTC is capable off. And from what I've seen, HTC beats iPhone, but the support for HTC is not as wide as iPhone.

  9. mmm a little late in commenting.. lol..

    anyways.. if u want apps and games on the go.. choose iphone.
    if u want it for a practical purpose.. get HD2.
    if u have a high end plan, get the iphone. (free) if u dont like it, u can always sell it and get another phone w/o contract.

    i am currently using N97. so far so good. but of course.. its not as fun as a Iphone. but it serves its purpose as a work phone.

    so.. end of the day.. u have to really look at what you want.

    anyway.. u dont have to JB the phone. as the free apps are enough to get you through for very very long..

  10. Get a 16GB Black Iphone 3GS, and if you don't like it, there are a lot of people out there who will trade and HTC HD2 for a 16Gb Iphone 3GS. (Get black because it looks better.)
    Now, if you want a better phone, (not for gaming and stuff), go for the HTC HD2. I personally own an 16Gb Iphone 3GS, but I have used an HTC HD2, and it is very good.
    In the end, it comes down to what you like, and after all it is your choice.
